Childline

ChildLine is a private and confidential service for children and young people up to the age of nineteen. You can contact a ChildLine counsellor about anything – no problem is too big or too small. Call free on 0800 1111, have a 1-2-1 chat online or send an email.

Family Lives offer advice and support for parents over the telephone or online.

Royal College of Psychiatrists

This site has many helpful fact sheets for Young People and for Parents e.g. Dealing with tantrums; Sleep problems; Behavioural problems and conduct disorder; Depression in children and Helping Children to Cope with Worries and anxieties.

Samaritans

Available 24 hours a day to provide free, confidential emotional support for people (including young people) who are experiencing feelings of distress, despair or suicidal thoughts.

Selfharm

Support for young people impacted on by self-harm.

Talk to Frank

A confidential helpline for anyone in the UK concerned about drug use. Advice for parents/carers and comprehensive information on drugs. Questions via online submission, news, leaflets.

The Theraplay Institute

Theraplay is a child and family therapy for enhancing and building attachment, self-esteem, trust in others, and joyful engagement. It is based on the natural patterns of playful, healthy interaction between parent and child and is personal, physical, and fun. Theraplay is appropriate for children of all ages. TheSite.org is an online guide to life for 16 to 25 year-olds. They provide non-judgemental support and information on everything from sex and exam stress to debt and drugs. It has a section on mental health.
