Therapeutic Support Offered

Support for: Parents/Carers | Children | Teenagers | Families

Over the years I have worked with hundreds of parents and their children; let me reassure you that I have met with many dedicated and loving parents who are still struggling with the trials and tribulations of bringing up children!

Sometimes the challenges are due to a difficult circumstance (maybe bereavement, divorce or separation, bullying, a traumatic incident, an illness), but often parent’s are really not sure why things are difficult. And sometimes a parent’s own childhood has led to difficulties which may impact on the way they parent (mental health issues, domestic abuse, substance misuse, difficulties bonding with their child). Whatever the reason I’m sure that I have heard a similar set of circumstances from other parents; it’s not that this is only happening to you.

You may be seeking support due to one or more of the following:

  • Angry, aggressive or destructive outbursts
  • Defiant, challenging behaviour
  • Bereavement and loss issues
  • A lack of confidence, low self esteem
  • Shyness, unusually quiet or withdrawal
  • Low mood, easily tearful, concerns about depression
  • Self-harming behaviours (e.g. cutting, head banging, substance misuse)
  • Traumatic incidents (e.g. a car crash, child abuse, domestic abuse)
  • The effects of divorce or separation
  • Bullying (children who bully and those who are on the receiving end of these behaviours)
  • Children affected by illness, or the illness of a parent or sibling
  • Sibling rivalry
  • Sleep problems
  • Issues around eating
  • Anxiety, fear, phobia or obsessive/repeated behaviours
  • Issues around perfection
  • Stressed with school work
  • Not achieving/developing at the same pace as peers
  • Difficulty making or keeping friends
  • Behaviour difficulties at home, school or both
  • Difficulty adjusting to a change in circumstances
  • Soiling/toileting difficulties
  • Difficulties with the parent-child relationship
  • School has expressed concerns

Or it may simply be that you wish to understand your child/teen’s behaviour better, to understand their inner world more fully or you just wonder if there is something more you can do to help your child.
